Biomarker Evidence Intern

The Biomarker Evidence Internship is designed for a medical student with an interest in how pathology and immuno-oncology evidence is read, organized, and communicated. The work emphasizes source quality and limitations so that educational material remains precise and does not overstate what a biomarker result means.

Under supervision, the intern may organize public literature, compare definitions used for biomarkers, and prepare evidence maps for internal educational review. The intern will not interpret results for patients or make clinical recommendations. The internship does not involve patient access, diagnosis, treatment, medical practice, or confidential health information.

Learning activities

• Build structured summaries of biomarker concepts, assay terminology, and relevant pathology context.
• Compare how primary studies, reviews, and professional guidance define the same biomarker or outcome.
• Record limitations, population boundaries, and unanswered questions alongside each evidence summary.
• Help identify ambiguous or potentially misleading wording in educational and search-oriented content.
• Prepare source lists and evidence tables for supervisor review, with clear links between claims and references.
• Discuss how to communicate uncertainty without making a clinical recommendation or guarantee.

Required eligibility

• At least a fourth-year medical student at the time of application.
• Active enrollment in an accredited medical university or medical faculty.
• Interest in pathology, oncology, immunology, laboratory diagnostics, or evidence-based medicine.
• Ability to read scientific sources critically and identify the difference between association, performance, and clinical utility.
• Strong organization skills and willingness to document sources and uncertainty.
• Professional written communication in English; Bulgarian-language communication is an advantage.

Important participation terms

This is a 0 BGN supervised educational placement under a written university-company arrangement. It includes no productive work, patient care, clinical decisions, or independent access to any systems, materials, or information. It is not clinical employment or medical practice.
